Woodwind Yachts' Crew & Current Projects

Ken Lavalette: Owner/operator, master craftsman and master finisher. Ken has over 35 years experience in wooden boat restoration and refinishing. His main area of expertise lies in the small to medium sized classic sailing craft and runabouts. Ken truly has an undying love for vintage wooden watercraft, which is clearly reflected in his attention to detail.

Arnoud Braat: Master craftsman, boatbuilder and finisher. Prior to his employment at Woodwind Yachts, Arnoud accumulated 14 years experience in an array of custom fine woodworking. Arnoud has been employed with Woodwind Yachts for over 12 years now, and following a few years away, we are happy he has rejoined our crew in 2015. Combined with his knowledge and exacting standards, he brings a positive, productive attitude to work each day.

Luke Morgan : Master craftsman, boatbuilder and finisher. Prior to his employment here, Luke was building and installing elaborate wooden interiors in 34' to 44' luxury yachts. Luke is a quiet, conscientious, detail oriented woodworker and finisher. He is a valuable member of our crew who is extremely pleasant to work with.

Brian Carlson-Graves : Craftsman and finisher. Brian is the newest member of our crew. It has been his lifelong dream to build and restore wooden boats and this is what has directed him to apply at Woodwind Yachts. Brian's previous 20 years of woodworking has been mostly with building and renovating fine custom homes. He is now apprenticing to become one of our master craftsmen and finishers. He is a detailed woodworker who is very pleasant to work with. Welcome aboard Brian!

John Curl : Craftsman and master finisher. John joined us in 2011 and is the newest member of our crew. He has become one of the master finishers at Woodwind Yachts and is responsible for keeping the shop extremely organized. He is very personable, reliable, detail oriented and brings a positive attitude along with a good sense of humour to work each day. His mechanical and problem solving knowledge is valuable here.

Connie Marion: Administrative assistant. Connie is extremely knowledgeable, efficient and capable of handling all office duties associated with running a small business. She and her husband have successfully run their own small business for over 30 years. She has been with us, 3 days a week, for over 10 years, and goes about her work with a positive, cheerful attitude.


With our combined talents, vast knowledge and experience in all types of wooden boat construction and restoration, the crew at Woodwind Yachts feel confident we can provide our customers with an outstanding wooden watercraft (be it new or restored) that will satisfy even the most discriminating yachtsman. Collectively, we have built or restored almost three hundred fine wooden boats from canoes, daysailers, Folkboats, Dragons and Metre boats to beautiful mahogany runabouts and launches, cedarstrips and cabin cruisers.

  • A 16' - 2002 Stan Hunter runabout
  • A 17' - 1954 Shepherd mahogany runabout
  • An 18' - 1971 Class 280 hydroplane
  • An 18' - 1947 Duke Playmate runabout
  • A 19' - 1970 Acme Aqualiner runabout
  • A 19' - 1964 Shepherd mahogany runabout
  • A 25' - 1962 Folkboat sloop
  • A 25' - 1969 Folkboat sloop
  • A 25' - 1964 Folkboat sloop (smooth skin)
  • A 28' - 1937 Tumlare sloop

In addition, we will be doing 'annual maintenance'
to many of our regular customer's vessels.
